A Passion for Local
The North Coast Food Trail
A grant funded in part by the Oregon Lottery is giving foodies what they want – local bounty and innovative cuisine.
Along the Trail
Taking A Bite of the Oregon Coast
Oregon’s northern coast boasts some of the best land around for growing food. The climate is temperate, the rain is plentiful, and the soil is world class. Fresh flavors and an adventurous culinary spirit abound.
The North Coast Food Trail was born from a simple desire to spread the Pacific Northwest foodie spirit along the coast, to showcase great local food and delight diners.
Ripe for Exploration
This partnership between regions of Oregon’s shoreline allows visitors to choose their own culinary adventure through a network of local restaurants, food businesses and accommodations. It might mean an afternoon at a dairy farm exploring local cheese. Or perhaps a passion for seafood inspires a fishing boat excursion to help with the daily catch. The trail lets hungry travelers find the stops that whet their appetite.
An Explosion of Food Innovation
In 2019, Oregon Lottery dollars helped fund a Business Oregon grant to further innovate the North Coast Food Trail. This funding helped expand access to food development training, which helps producers get new products into the marketplace.
Thanks to the program’s continued development, restaurants and suppliers have realized the Trail is more than just a visitor-facing program. It allows them to learn from each other and experience the stories of their peers along the Trail. It’s also providing producers a better link into local markets for their products.
Happy Trails!
The North Coast Food Trail provides economic benefit to the connected communities beyond the food supply industry. Lodging, retail shops, museums, and excursions that are a part of the experience add to the economic vitality of the region. All along the shoreline, the North Coast Food Trail community is excited to invite all of Oregon to their tables.
